16 Augustus 2011 | Australië, Sydney

So, we've been a little busy the last couple of days, plus we don't have free internet access at the hotel. These two things combined means it has been a while since our last message.
In the last message I believe I said something about going on a tour in the Hunter Valley to taste some wines. In total, we visited 5 cellar doors where we tasted wines. Two of those we absolutely loved: Petersons, which we started at, was really great, mostly due to the enthousiastic host, but also due to the very nice wines. The second was Mount View Estate, where we even bought a nice bottle of wine. Unfortunately, due to weight and liquid issues, we can't bring any wines back with us. At lunch we had the biggest burger either of us had ever seen, which tasted as good as at looked ;). We visited three more cellar doors to taste some wines, but none of them stood up to the first two. At the end of the day, we even took a short detour to find some kangaroos (which we did). When we got back to the B&B, there were about thirty 'roos in the field in front of the house :).
Friday, the next day, we took our time getting on the road and drove to just south of Newcastle and followed the coast down. At the edge of Newcastle we stopped at a lovely little reserve called Blackbutt (really) where we got a look at some of the local wildlife. At The Entrance (thats the name of the town) we watched the daily pelican feed, which was quite impressive. We got into a hotel in Terrigal at the coast, just half an hour outside of Gosford.
Saturday morning we drove to the Australian Reptile Park in Gosford which was absolutely awesome. We got to go very, very close to most of the animals. We fed some kangaroos, petted the 'roos as well as emus, wombats, dingos (young puppies and an adult), a koala, and even a snake :).
Saturday afternoon we arrived back in Sydney, and after dropping off the car and checking into the hotel (which is very good, btw), we took a walk to the north edge of hyde park to have a look out onto the bay (and the opera house). In the evening, we walked down to Darling Harbour, which is only five minutes from the hotel. Sunday we had a short detour to Paddy's Market and took the ferry to Manly and took a long walk up to the north head fortress. Along the way we saw some very nice cliffs, beaches and even rainforrest. After returning to Circular Quay with the ferry, we went to the market in the Rocks (oldest neighbourhood in Sydney) and had Chinese in China Town for dinner.
Monday morning we took the train to Kogarah where Marc lived three years ago. Unfortunately, the appartment building itself was under reconstruction, but the prof. he worked for took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to talk to Marc. In the afternoon we took a tour of the Opera house and watched Transformers 3 at the imax in the evening.
And that's it for now...
